There are Many Different Career Paths in the Insurance Industry
There’s a question that torments every prospective insurance agent: “How do I really know if I have what it takes to make it in this business?” Just because you have an insurance license doesn’t automatically mean you have to be an "Insurance Agent".
As an insurance professional, you don’t need to be perfect at everything. However, you do have to recognize where you’re strong and where you’re weak. Hate to cold call? Maybe insurance sales in not for you. DON'T WORRY...There are plenty of other things you can do with your license.
Look at me, for example...I have every license know to man and I have built an extremely rewarding career in the insurance industry. Guess how many policies I have sold over the years...three. Yep, three. Two life insurance policies insuring my own life and one insuring my wife. I have never sold a P&C policy.
After a lengthy career in the investment industry I was offered a position as a trainer at Prudential. I was tasked with getting every employee in a large call center licensed in both securities and insurance, I decided I'd better hurry and get my insurance licenses...after all, how would I have any credibility with the people I was training if I didn't have the license myself? From there I went to Northwestern Mutual as their Compliance Officer, and now I teach pre-license courses. You too can build a career as a licensed insurance professional without ever selling a single policy...Of course if you happen to be in the market for an insurance policy, you might as well buy it from yourself and get paid a commission, right?!?
